Trail Essentials

When you’re out on a long ride the last thing you want is to be caught without a puncture repair kit or some basic tools for those impromptu repairs. Make sure you don’t have your ride cut short by carrying a few essential tools.

Puncture Repair

It goes without saying that a good puncture repair kit is a must. The Cure-c-Cure Repair Kit contains feather-edged patches for quick, reliable repairs that will last the life of the tube.

Chain Tools

A chain tool is a ‘must have’ should your chain break. Choose either the world famous Rivoli Chain Rivet Extractor or the Rivex Chain Rivet Extractor.

Lubricant

TF2 Plus is available in a handy sized 75ml bottle, ideal for making sure your chain, cables and other vital components are properly lubed - and as it’s Teflon®-based it’ll continue protecting your bike’s components for miles to come.

Tyre Levers

Tyre Levers are a must for puncture repairs - just take care not to pinch the tube between the lever and the rim.

Dr Sludge Inner Tubes

Spare Dr Sludge Inner Tubes can prove useful in case of serious puncture damage. These tubes are pre-filled with Dr Sludge sealant that - on contact with air - will form a permanent seal over the hole.

Bike Pump

Once your tube is repaired, it’ll need inflating. The Jetvalve MK2 CO2 Tyre Inflator is quicker than using a traditional pump - and much easier on the arms too. Don’t forget to carry some spare CO2 cylinders in case you’re unlucky enough to experience more than one puncture!

Deluxe Multi Tool

A good multi tool is one essential no self-respecting rider should leave home without. Weldtite’s Deluxe Multi Tool features spoke keys, spanner heads, hexagon keys and screwdriver heads - all contained in one compact, lightweight tool.

Why are there so many different types of puncture repair kits?

Inner tube widths and pressures vary. On high pressure inner tubes the narrow profile repair kit would be more appropriate than an 'Airtite' kit, for example. Also, some of the kits have tools included and become more or less complete roadside repair kits.

When should you use a torque wrench?

You need to use a torque wrench when you tighten most bolts & nuts in your bike. The relevant torque settings should be available from your bike manufacturer.

What are the advantage of nylon tyre levers over steel?

Cyclo nylon tyre levers have glass fibre in them so they are very strong. They are lighter than steel and don't damage the wheel rims even if they are alloy.
